I don't often visit the Eastern shores of Loch Lomond, instead preferring to take the route North past Luss to the Highlands. I was curious to explore an area I hadn't visited since completing the West Highland Way, though this time my pack was laden with lenses instead of camping gear. Fortunately the slow breeze kept the midge away while I waited for this long exposure to finish.</image:caption>

I once learned from an outdoor photographer the tops of mountains are the first place the light touches and the last place it leaves, and that it is better to photograph with the light at your feet. Never have I experienced this more than climbing this, my first Black Cuillin. I remember vividly the sense of exhilaration peering down into the dark abyss of the inner corries below. I summited Bruach na Frithe just as the setting sun was perfectly highlighting the jagged intricacies of Scotland’s most spectacular ridge, and I gazed in awe as one side of the zigzag path turned red, almost as if returning to its original magma state.</image:caption>

Sometimes an image exceeds expectations and this was one of those occasions. A long drive and walk took me to one of Britain's finest viewpoints on the caldera of the ancient Cuillin. From my lofty viewpoint of almost 500m I found myself surrounded by the majestic snow-topped ridge. The wind buffeted me but my tripod remained steady and as the sun moved behind the clouds on top of the mountains, its rays shone through just in time to illuminate the ground at my feet. I’ve had the privilege to witness this extraordinary view on many occasions, each engraving a unique memory in my mind. On this cloudy summer’s day I wanted to create some drama and connect the land to the sea. To add the desired movement I used a 6-stop filter for the necessary shutter speed. I find the panoramic format perfect for this scene as it follows the profile of the mountains, while drawing the viewer into the frame. My aim is to make the viewer feel part of the landscape.</image:caption>
